Promotions & job applications

Just as an individual is unique, each job opening is different, and so should each application be carefully crafted for the specifics of the advertised position. We coach our researchers on how to learn about the intricacies of researching and tailoring their preparation for job applications.

When making an application for promotion, or seeking a new job, researchers need to effectively and convincingly communicate who they are, their achievements, and the value that they bring to an employer/institution. Applicants also need to make sure that they address all assessment requirements and criteria.

An application for promotion must be honest and accurate, demonstrating success and ambition, whilst at the same time presenting the applicant's skills and achievements in a highly professional and positive manner.

We can help researchers optimise the impact of their application for promotion by providing the following:

  • Coaching and mentoring on how to better research a position (other then the listed job description); how to be more strategic in applying in relation to the assessment criteria; and how to better position themselves for a (potential) future job interview.

  • Critical review and feedback on the content of the application.

  • Strategic analysis of the applicant's positioning within the field (identification of potential weaknesses/advice on how to remedy them).

  • Substantive editing (consistency, flow, clarity, tone of voice).

  • Review of support letters (as required).
